France
Welcome! My name is Virginia Irwin and I am the Deputy Head of the International Office and country manager for the European Union.
There are just over 100 French students at the University of Bath. 40 are studying for BA/BSc programmes, 20 for MA/MSc programmes and about 10 for doctorates. Around 30 are studying as exchange students from our ERASMUS partners.
French students are studying across all our subject areas and in all Departments and popular subjects at BA/BSc and MA/MSc include Management, Modern Languages, European Studies, Engineering, Politics and International Relations. Our current French PhD students are mainly in the Faculty of Science.
Like many students, they choose Bath for its ranking and reputation, beautiful and safe location, emphasis on employability and great sports facilities. Of course, as EU students, French students pay the same tuition fee as a student from the UK.

Entry Requirements and How to Apply: Undergraduate Degrees
These are general guidelines only and exact requirements will vary on an individual basis and from subject to subject, so please do check the requirements for your programme.
All applications for our undergraduate programmes must be made through the UK’s central applications service, UCAS: www.ucas.ac.uk/studyuk/applying.html Applications should be completed between 1 September 2009 and 15 January 2010 to start your course in October 2010. Your local British Council Office will be able to help you.
All applicants must meet our English Language entry requirements. You can find out more at: http://www.bath.ac.uk/international/apply/eng-lang.html. If you have taken other English language exams as part of your school studies such as GCSE, IGCSE, International Baccalaureate or A levels, you will not usually be required to also take IELTS or TOEFL.
Local System Schools
If you have finished the French high school system with the Baccalauréat Général (and other Baccalauréats) you are able to apply for direct entry to an undergraduate programme in any subject. Grades required range from 12 or 13 to 15 depending on the programme. The majority of our French students enter via this route.
International System Schools
The University particularly welcomes applications from students taking A Level examinations and the International Baccalaureate (IB) for direct entry into its undergraduate programmes. We require a minimum of three good A Levels or 32-38 points in the International Baccalaureate. Each course has its own requirements – see our undergraduate prospectus.
Entry Requirements and How to Apply: Post-Graduate Degrees

Taught Level
Apply online at www.bath.ac.uk/prospectus/postgrad/apply. Very few of the postgraduate courses at the University of Bath have formal deadlines (with the exception of the MBA), but the high demand for places means that you are strongly advised to apply as early as possible.
Holders of a Diplôme from an Ecole Superieure de Commerce / Gestion / Politique, Maîtrise or Diplôme d'Ingénieur will be considered for direct admission to our graduate degree programmes. Entry requirements do vary from programme to programme so please do check our postgraduate prospectus.
Research level

Apply online at www.bath.ac.uk/prospectus/postgrad/apply. Very few of the postgraduate courses at the University of Bath have formal deadlines but the high demand for places means that you are strongly advised to apply as early as possible especially if you wish to seek funding.
A Masters level qualification from a prestigious university will in many cases be required for PhD entry. Evidence of some research experience (for example through a Masters degree project) is expected.

Bachelors/Undergraduate
As a guideline, our current 2009-2010 tuition fees for a BSc /BA full time degree are £3,225. See http://www.bath.ac.uk/finance/student/
If you are a European Union student, you do not need to pay this fee up-front at registration. In fact, you won’t have to pay any fees at all while you are studying. You will be able to take out a loan to cover fees and will only have to start paying this back after graduation. However, you do need to make sure that you apply for loan in plenty of time.

Masters/Graduate
As a guideline, our current 2009-2010 tuition fees for MSc/MA full-time degrees are £4240.
However, many programmes have different fees.

Exchange and Visiting Students
Currently, the University of Bath has nearly 30 exchange agreements with French universities under the ERASMUS scheme covering Mechanical Engineering, European Studies, Management and several other subjects. There are a few opportunities for visiting students who wish to study at Bath for a semester but these are only available in some departments. English Language and Culture Summer Programmes
The University of Bath English Language Centre offers a wide range of year-round and summer programmes for you to improve your academic and social English and to learn more about the history and culture of the UK.
