Welcome! My name is Virginia Irwin and I am the Deputy Head of the International Office and country manager for the European Union.
The University of Bath is active in Germany and in 2009-2010 we shall be attending fairs and holding events. These will be published on the School of Management website as soon as they become available so do check regularly:

This will be a good opportunity to meet representatives from the School of Management including our academic staff.
There are just over 100 German students at the University of Bath. 35 are studying for BA/BSc programmes, 30 for MA/MSc programmes and about 20 for doctorates. There are also about 20 exchange students from our overseas partners.
German students are studying across all our subject areas at BA/BSc and MA/MSc and in all Departments. Popular subjects at these levels include Economics, Management, Modern Languages, European Studies, Politics and International Relations. In addition, our doctorate students are mainly located in the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Engineering.
Like many students, they choose Bath for its ranking and reputation, beautiful and safe location, emphasis on employability and great sports facilities. Of course, as EU students, German students pay the same tuition fee as a student from the UK.

Entry Requirements and How to Apply: Undergraduate Degrees
These are general guidelines only and exact requirements will vary on an individual basis and from subject to subject, so please do check the requirements for your programme.
All applications for our undergraduate programmes must be made through the UK’s central applications service, UCAS: www.ucas.ac.uk/studyuk/applying.html Applications should be completed between 1 September 2009 and 15 January 2010 to start your course in October 2010. Your local British Council Office may be able to help you.
All applicants must meet our English Language entry requirements. You can find out more at: http://www.bath.ac.uk/international/apply/eng-lang.html. If you have taken other English language exams as part of your school studies such as GCSE, IGCSE, International Baccalaureate or A levels, you will not usually be required to also take IELTS or TOEFL.
Local System Schools
If you have finished the German high school system with the Abitur you are able to apply for direct entry to an undergraduate programme in any subject. As a guideline, grades required will depend on the individual, programme and Department but usually range from 1.9-2.2 overall (with individual scores between 10 and 12) to 1.0-1.5 overall, (with individual scores between 13 and 15).
International System Schools
The University particularly welcomes applications from students taking A Level examinations, European Baccalaureate and the International Baccalaureate (IB) for direct entry into its undergraduate programmes. We require a minimum of three good A Levels or 32-38 points in the International Baccalaureate. Each course has its own requirements – see our undergraduate prospectus.

Taught Level
Apply online at www.bath.ac.uk/prospectus/postgrad/apply. Very few of the postgraduate courses at the University of Bath have formal deadlines (with the exception of the MBA), but the high demand for places means that you are strongly advised to apply as early as possible.
Students who have completed the Hauptstudium (Main Study) phase of their university education and obtained the award of Magister Artium, Diplom or Erstes Staatsexamen are considered for direct admission to our graduate degree programmes. The University is not normally able to consider Masters degree applications from students who only hold the Zwischenzeugnis / Vordiplom. A full certified transcript must accompany the application.

Research level

A Masters level qualification from a prestigious university will in many cases be required for PhD entry. Evidence of some research experience (for example through a Masters degree project) is expected.

Bachelors/Undergraduate
As a guideline, our current 2009-2010 tuition fees for a BSc /BA full time degree are £3,225. See http://www.bath.ac.uk/finance/student/
If you are a European Union student, you do not need to pay this fee up-front at registration. In fact, you won’t have to pay any fees at all while you are studying. You will be able to take out a loan to cover fees and will only have to start paying this back after graduation. However, you do need to make sure that you apply for loan in plenty of time.

Masters/Graduate
As a guideline, our current 2009-2010 tuition fees for MSc/MA full-time degrees are £4240.
However, many programmes have different fees.

Exchange and Visiting Students
Currently, the University of Bath has more than 20 exchange agreements with German universities under the ERASMUS scheme including Management, Mechanical Engineering and European Studies as well as several other subject areas.

The University of Bath English Language Centre offers a wide range of year-round and summer programmes for you to improve your academic and social English and to learn more about the history and culture of the UK.
