Country Information
India

My name is Zoe Whittle and I am the country manager for India.

The University of Bath has been welcoming students from India for many years and now has a vibrant community of over 100 Indian students from across the country studying on our undergraduate and postgraduate Masters programmes primarily in the areas of Engineering and Management. They often tell me that they choose Bath for its ranking and reputation, emphasis on employability and safe location.

Colleagues from the University visit India throughout the year, and the International Office visits in February and June.

Strengthening our links with India
The University of Bath has a long tradition of engagement with India and colleagues throughout the institution are actively engaged with the Indian educational community on many different levels, both as individuals and through international networks. In 2009 we have welcomed two exciting initiatives: becoming a partner with Madurai Kamaraj University under the India/UK Leadership Development Network Programme (LDNP) and in the development of Bath’s first joint postgraduate programme, an MSc in Industrial Biotechnology Enterprise, with St Xaviers College, Mumbai, funded through UKIERI. Through shared best-practice, we hope to strengthen the skills of HE staff in both UK & India and build a longer-term sustainable partnership between our two countries.

MSc in Industrial Biotechnology Enterprise
We are delighted to launch a new joint Masters programme, MSc in Industrial Biotechnology Enterprise, with St Xaviers College, Mumbai from June 2009 onwards, supported by the UK-India Education & Research Initiative (UKIERI)- Collaborative Programme Delivery 2009, organised by the British Council, India. This innovative and collaborative MSc programme aims to fill the gap between biotechnology industry expectations and skills provided by the HE sector. It will combine research, entrepreneurial skills and an industrial placement experience in a biotechnology company. It is designed for high-achieving students who would like to pursue a career either in research or at the interface of biotechnology leadership and business.Find out more...

Additional information
Come and meet us and our representatives

Entry Requirements

These are general guidelines only and exact requirements will vary on an individual basis and from subject to subject, so please do check the requirements for your programme.

Undergraduate degrees

Holders of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Indian Council School Examinations (ICSE) will be considered for entry onto our Bachelor degree programmes. To be eligible for entry students should have predicted grades of an aggregate of 80% in five subjects in their Class XII exams, alongside with a strong performance in Class X. Science and Engineering students will need to obtain an aggregate of at least 75% in Class XII exams.

Bath is now also accepting the West Bengal and Maharastra Boards for direct entry. West Bengal Board students will need to have an aggregate in five subjects of at least 70% in their Class X and Class XII exams. Maharastra Board students will be taken on an individual basis but the guidelines are again an aggregate in five subjects of around 85% depending upon their individual subjects.

The minimum English Language Requirement for our undergraduate programmes is IELTS 6.0 or Class XII English at 70% minimum in Class XII for CBSE and ICSE boards.

The University welcomes applications from students taking A Level examinations and the International Baccalaureate (IB) for direct entry into its undergraduate programmes. Details of the grades or points required can be found in our undergraduate prospectus.

Postgraduate taught degrees

Holders of a Bachelors degree with a good first class degree of 60% and above from a recognised central or state university will be considered for entry to a Masters degree. Entry requirements do vary from programme to programme so please do check our postgraduate prospectus

Some of our programmes require work experience so check the requirements carefully. In particular our MBA requires a minimum of three years relevant work experience.

It is best to send your application as early as possible. Please be aware that our MBA has a special early deadline of April 1st. We also prioritise those applications which arrive directly into the MBA Admissions Office via our on-line application portal and access to the on-line application portal is available across our management website

All applicants must also meet our English requirements (IELTS 6.5-7.0) You can do this by taking IELTS or TOEFL exams or by attending a pre-sessional programme in our English Language Centre

Research level

A Masters level qualification from a prestigious university will in many cases be required for PhD entry. Evidence of some research experience (for example through a Masters degree project) is expected.

The University of Bath is a major research university in the UK and has a research portfolio of around £92m.

If you are interested in becoming a full-time PhD student at the University of Bath, see http://www.bath.ac.uk/grad-office/ to get information about our research programmes.

Of course, finding funding for a PhD is very important. We have two main schemes open to international students: the University Research Studentships and the University Overseas Scholarships. You can find out more at: http://www.bath.ac.uk/grad-office/finance/studentships.html
