Come and meet us
Shalom! My name is Andy Howman and as well as being the Head of the International Office I am also the country manager for Israel. This means that I am able to assist students from Israel with any enquiries that they may have concerning our programmes of study and, more generally, living and studying in Bath.
Bath welcomes applications from Israeli students. The University’s outstanding academic reputation, the excellent facilities provided on our campus and the chance to live in a UNESCO World Heritage City that offers a very different environment to that which most will have experienced in their home country are among the reasons why people decide to apply to us. Our degrees are recognised around the world and we are always happy to explore the potential for collaboration with both fellow higher education institutions and government education ministries.
I hope I will have the opportunity to meet you in the future. If you would like to contact me, my email address is A.Howman@bath.ac.uk and wherever I am in the world I will do my best to reply as quickly as I can with the information that you need
Entry Requirements
These are general guidelines only and exact requirements will vary on an individual basis and from subject to subject.
Undergraduate degrees
Students undertaking the Bagrut (Matriculation) or Mechina may apply for entry directly on to our undergraduate degree programmes. Our minimum requirement in the Bagrut is marks of at least 7 in all subjects, with two subjects taken in five units, although this is a guideline and the final offer of admission may be higher. If you do not meet the criteria for enrolment on to one of our undergraduate degrees then you may wish to consider undertaking a bridging qualification in order to progress to Bachelors study. Our Foundation Year is recommended for high school graduates in such a situation and is the ideal preparation for undergraduate studies.
The University welcomes applications from students taking A Level examinations, the International Baccalaureate (IB) and certain other internationally recognised qualifications for direct entry into undergraduate programmes. We regularly receive UCAS applications from candidates attending international schools in the Middle East. Details of the grades or points required can be found in our undergraduate prospectus.
All students need to demonstrate their proficiency in English in order to enroll at the University of Bath. This may either be evidenced through school examinations such as the GCSE or IB, or as a result of undertaking an English language test, usually TOEFL or IELTS.
All undergraduate applications, including those for Foundation Year, must be made through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Services (UCAS) and there is an on-line application facility to enable application - http://www.ucas.com/students/apply/
Postgraduate taught degrees
Holders of a Bachelors degree from a recognised university in Israel are welcome to apply for one of our Masters programmes. Entry requirements for Masters degree candidates will vary as we take into account a number of factors, such as your subject of study, the grades achieved (both cumulative and in individual classes), and the institution at which you obtained your degree. General information about entry requirements for each of our postgraduate taught degrees is provided on our website alongside the course details. Please read these guidelines carefully. These details will not give specific information about the validity of qualifications from a particular country but will often provide confirmation of certain requirements all students must satisfy, such as any need for working experience or a specific academic subject background.
Israeli postgraduate students new to the UK may need to take an English language test. We understand that English is widely used both for teaching and assessment in your home country and so applicants may already have had experience of being educated in the English medium. However, we find levels of English proficiency can vary significantly. Bath is one of the top universities in the world and our programmes are challenging, so please do not be surprised or offended if we do ask for you to take a test of English, if we offer you admission. We do this to ensure students are as well prepared as possible to cope with the rigors of study here. Some students will undertake an English course in our English Language Centre before starting their Masters degree. This is excellent preparation for the Masters, as well as a good opportunity to get used to life in Bath before your degree begins. The English Language Centre is able to offer teaching to students of various levels, from lower intermediate through to people who already possess a high level of English. Courses therefore may last anything from one month to one year.
Research degrees
If you are seeking admission to one of our research degrees (MPhil/PhD) then a Masters level qualification will generally be needed to satisfy our application requirements. Evidence of some research experience (for example through a Masters degree that included a thesis/project component or work as a research assistant) is often expected. In addition to the standard application papers, a research proposal is essential, outlining how you intend to go about your research. As with all our programmes, applicants whose first language is not English may need to demonstrate proficiency in English through a satisfactory result in a recognised test such as IELTS or TOEFL and pre-degree English courses are available through our English Language Centre for students wishing to follow this route to meeting our linguistic requirements.
All postgraduate applicants should apply directly to the University using our on-line application facility. Please read the guidance about making an application carefully and be sure to submit your supporting documentation with your application to enable us to process your application more quickly.
Scholarships and funding for Israeli students
There may be financial aid that we can offer to you. The University of Bath International Scholarships Scheme provides 75 scholarships of £3000 each for students on post-graduate taught programmes (Masters degrees). Candidates must complete a separate on-line scholarship application form once they have firmly accepted an offer from Bath. For full details see http://www.bath.ac.uk/international/finance/scholarships/index.html. We also provide full and partial research degree scholarships for students looking to undertake any of our MPhil/PhD programmes. Funding for undergraduate studies is very limited, although a few of our academic departments have small scholarships available to applicants who are offered a place on their degrees.
The British Council may have awards on offer through the Chevening scheme and further details can be obtained from the British Council in your country. Alternatively, there are international agencies, government departments, charitable organisations and private companies that could be able to provide financial aid for certain programmes of study and all are worth exploring.
Come and meet us:
Staff from the University of Bath visit Israel on occasion to meet prospective students, go to institutions, and participate in education events. If a visit is scheduled in the months ahead you will find details on our visit schedule.
Of course, if you have any plans to visit the UK you will also be welcome to come and meet me at the University of Bath. All I ask is that you contact me a few weeks in advance of your intended visit date, so that I can ensure the necessary arrangement can be made.
