Welcome to the Autumn issue of IntercomWelcome to our new-look InterCom. InterCom aims to keep you up-to-date with issues of interest to international students, so we hope you find it both informative and enjoyable to read!

In this issue, as well as our regular features you may notice some new ones, such as the international film review and the chance to have your favourite national recipe published in the next issue.

We are always interested in hearing your news and if you would like to write something for the Spring issue, just send your article to the International Office - if it is published, you will receive a gift voucher for Waterstones.

NEWS in brief

Orientation
This year's Orientation events welcomed more international students than ever before. Thanks must go to our excellent team of helpers, who worked hard to ensure that new students were able to settle in easily and make new friends. If you have any comments about your experiences when you first arrived and new ideas for next year's events, please send them to the International Office - if we use your idea you could win an Amazon voucher!

International Student Barometer
At Bath we really value your feedback on your experience as you progress through your studies. We have therefore joined a global survey of international student experiences called the International Student Barometer. This survey will be sent to you at three points during the year starting this week and is your opportunity to tell us what you think, both what is going well and what is frustrating. Your response will help us to enhance the student experience for current and future students - particularly those from your country. The survey forms part of a wider ongoing study and is independently administered for the University by the International Graduate Insight Group (i-graduate.org).

Look out for the link to the first survey coming into your inbox this week!

Focus - Global Group’s new film discussion group
Do you like world films and enjoy discussing them?  Why not join FOCUS, a film discussion group that is part of the Global Group.  Global Group members can enjoy 2-for-1 tickets at the Little Theatre with FOCUS, and free screenings of world films on campus, with the opportunity to discuss the film afterwards in a relaxed environment.  Membership is free – for further information contact the Global Group on:  international@bath.ac.uk.

Fresh Oriental in the national news
The new international food store on campus made it into the national newspapers last month.  The Times Higher Education Supplement featured a photo of the Chinese State Circus, who visited the campus to celebrate the opening of the new shop.  The shop’s manager is keen to expand the range of food sold in the store – if you have any suggestions please let the International Office know and we will send them on.

Are you a new Postgraduate student?
If you started your PG course this year, in any subject, you are entitled to apply for leave to remain to work in the UK for 12 months when you have graduated.  You will need to show that you have graduated and that you intend to work in the UK.  For further information contact the International Office.
