IPR Policy Fellowship Programme

The IPR Policy Fellowship Programme offers senior decision-makers from government, industry and the third sector the opportunity to renew and reinvigorate their professional thinking by spending time with world-class academics at the University of Bath.

The Fellowship Programme is structured around tailored one-to-one meetings with selected academics. The meetings take place over a period of between one and three days at the University of Bath, and offer Fellows fresh perspectives on the policy questions they are looking to address in their day-to-day professional roles.

Policy Fellowship Brochure

The University of Bath performs cutting-edge research with international impact across all the University’s faculties: Science; Engineering & Design; Humanities & Social Sciences and the School of Management.

The University’s interdisciplinary expertise provides perspectives which inform key areas of policy including healthcare, energy and sustainability, social policy, innovation, education, international development and many others. In addition the University of Bath’s School of Management is one of the UK’s leading research-intensive management schools. Drawing on the insights of our experts forms an important part of the Policy Fellowship experience. Our research informs new approaches to organisational management and service delivery, enhances professional and corporate practice and supports changes in policy.

Engaging with academics across the University inspires Policy Fellows with new ideas and perspectives. In this way the Policy Fellowship Programme drives innovation, helping Fellows apply new tools, models and frameworks to improve the ways in which policy is developed and delivered.

What Fellows can expect from the Programme

Each schedule will be different, but there are some basic elements which will remain the same for all of our Fellows:

  • We will have an initial discussion with you about your areas of interest and motivations for taking part.
  • You will be asked to prepare between six and eight policy questions around which you would like to focus your discussions, and also provide us with a brief note on your background and current role.
  • Using your questions as a framework, we will arrange a series of hour-long, one-to-one meetings with academics whose work is relevant to your policy area. Not all the people you meet with will be working directly in your area, or able to give specific answers to your questions. They will all, however, be able to engage in a thought-provoking discussion which will stimulate your thinking.
  • You will be given access to a quiet space to work between meetings.
  • You will be assigned a point of contact at the IPR who you can call on to facilitate future meetings or collaborations with University academics.
  • In addition to your meetings, you will be given access to the University of Bath Library during your visit and for two years following your initial visit.
  • By completing the programme you will join an elite group of IPR Policy Fellow Alumni.

Please also note that there is no charge for participating in the Policy Fellowship Programme.
