IPR Scheme for International Visiting Fellows and Visiting Policy Fellows
Update: June 2013
During the academic year 2013/14, the US alumni network of the University of Bath has generously contributed two additional awards:
- There will be an additional International Fellowship for an outstanding US scholar, with a contribution up to £9k
- There will be an additional Visiting Policy Fellowship for an outstanding UK policy maker, with a contribution up to £5k
The deadline for applications is 31 October 2013 and visits may occur at any time in the subsequent 12 months. Application procedures are as in the existing scheme (see below).
Guidance notes
- The application form should be completed by the proposer, not the applicant. See below for the full conditions of the scheme. Be as concise as possible and use bullet points as appropriate
- The International Fellow Awards are intended to support outstanding academics with a permanent position at a non-UK university to spend a period of time up to 3 months resident at the University of Bath
- The Visiting Policy Fellow Awards are intended to support policy makers from overseas governments, international organisations and international NGOs, to spend a similar period of time resident here. The nominee should have a strong record of knowledge exchange across the research/policy interface and should be involved in the development of policy on issues of central interest for the IPR
- Each year the IPR will contribute an amount normally not exceeding £5k (the amount to be related to the length of the visit), towards the travel and living costs of the successful applicants in each of the two schemes
- Several awards may be made in the same year, within the overall budget of £40k
- The application should include a statement of the proposed research activity, the forms of policy and/or public engagement it will involve, a curriculum vitae (max 2 pages) and a budget, setting out the costs that will be incurred. It should also give details of colleagues in other Departments who will be actively involved in collaboration with the visitor
- Applications may be submitted in time for either of two deadlines: 30th November and 31st May. They will be considered by the IPR Visiting Awards Committee soon after those deadlines. This Committee shall consist of the PVC Research (Chair), the (Acting) Director of the IPR and one other member of the IPR Steering Group nominated by the PVC Research. The visit should commence within 12 months of that decision
- This is not a contract of employment and it is a condition of award that the parent institution of the successful applicant will cover salary costs
- The Visitors will be based in the IPR, which shall provide office accommodation and access to services (library, email, computing, workshop, and laboratory) as appropriate
- Each Visitor shall be required to present a IPR lecture or seminar as part of their visit
- Details of the IPR and its goals
Supporting documents
- Each application form must be accompanied by a maximum 2 page CV of the applicant.
After completing the form
- After you have completed the application, please pass it to your Head of Department by the closing date of the call. Heads of Department will then pass their nominations to the IPR for consideration by its Visiting Awards Committee.
