Moodle 2.2 Familiarisation

Topic: Moodle, e-learning

Mode of delivery: seminar

Length: one hour

Workshop description

The e-Learning team have recently been attending a number of Faculty and Department staff meetings to highlight the upgrade to Moodle 2.2, which is due to take place this summer.

To date, over twenty separate presentations of First Look: Moodle 2.2 have been delivered, drawing a positive response from over 400 colleagues who have attended. This seminar represents the next part of the face-to-face support for the upgrade.

Over the course of an hour, participants will be given an overview of the upgrade to Moodle 2.2, and guided through the range of existing and new Moodle features, building a course based around a set of scenarios.

Additional information about the seminar

This is not a hands-on session with PCs and content will be delivered in a seminar style. Hands-on training sessions can be scheduled for individual departments and teams following this seminar.

Please note that you only need to attend one of either the face-to-face or the online session.

It is recommended, but not essential, that you have attended or viewed a recording of a First Look: Moodle 2.2 presentation prior to attending this seminar.

If you wish, bring laptops and other mobile devices to the seminar. There will be an opportunity to work in a blank (or your own, existing and upgraded) Moodle course during the session.

  • develop a greater understanding of Moodle 2.2, assessing how the upgrade with impact them and their courses
  • locate more efficient navigation, including effectively utilising the new Navigation and Settings blocks as well as the docking functionality
  • navigate through course functionality to amend course settings and enrol staff and students onto Moodle courses using updated interfaces
  • use Moodle to share information through the use of the new File Picker for uploading files, and embedding richer media in Pages
  • draw on the improved tools for assessment and feedback to develop activities for coursework submission and online Quizzes
  • participants will also be introduced to the Moodle Support Hub and the Moodle Features Demo, as two flagship resources in supporting staff through (and beyond) the upgrade to Moodle 2.2.
