What is The Bath Course in Enhancing Academic Practice? The Bath Course is designed for University of Bath academic staff on probation.

It is a work-based learning course which aims to develop your understanding of academic practice within your own distinct individual, departmental and disciplinary context.

Who is it for?

The course is for new and existing staff in teaching and research roles to help them enhance their academic practice in Higher Education.

All teaching staff on probation are required to complete the course and will be enrolled automatically. This course is mandatory under the University's minimum requirements for new teaching staff.

The Bath Course will help you to:

  • develop and enhance your skills
  • improve your practice and help you further develop your career in Higher Education
  • deliver high quality teaching and research.

Course structure

There are four assessed sections to The Bath Course:

  • Section A: Teaching and supporting learning
  • Section B: Becoming an academic at Bath
  • Section C: Curriculum design and development
  • Section D: Research management (optional for teaching fellows).

Accreditation

Successful completion of some sections of the course will lead to accreditation as an Associate Fellow or Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. This recognition is aligned with the UK Professional Standards Framework.
