Introduction
'Innovations in Learning and Teaching Week' is organised by the Learning and Teaching Enhancement Office in collaboration with colleagues from across the University of Bath. The aim of this annual event is to support enhancement and development of learning and teaching by offering staff opportunities to disseminate and share their practice.
Please see below some of the events which we have planned for Innovations Week 2010, further details will be added as and when they become available. Innovations Week launch and round table discussions
Monday 22nd February, 12.15 - 1.30, 6 West 1.2 - This will be the third year that we have held this event. This is a great opportunity for members of staff from across the university to come together and share good practice over lunch. Guests this year will include Alan Hayes and Marina De Vos from the Department of Computer Science who will talk about their project which explored and evaluated the use of audience response systems. Cassie Wilson from the School for Health will share her experience of developing a new system of 'feedback agreements'. Dyfed Griffiths from the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering will talk about the student placements learning experience.
Peer mentoring - the benefits of students supporting students
Tuesday 23rd February, 1.15 -3.00, 4 East 3.10 - Suitable for staff and students who are interested in setting up a peer mentoring scheme in their department. During the first part of this workshop participants will learn about the different pilot schemes, the benefits and challenges of peer mentoring and the support available to those interested in setting up a scheme. In the second part, participants will be able to discuss aspects specific to their individual requirements.
e-Learning taster session 1
Tuesday 23rd February, 2.15 - 4.00, 8 West 2.5 (you are required to book a place at this event). This session will introduce a range of tools available at the university to enable you to support and enhance the learner experience using social networking software. In particular, the use of Twitter and Social Bookmarking in learning and teaching. The session will focus on introducing these technologies, gaining experience of using the technologies and thinking about how you might use them in your teaching.
Annual Learning and Teaching Enhancement Seminar
Wednesday 24th February, 1.30 - 3.30, 6 West 1.1 (you are required to book a place at this event). The keynote speaker for 2010 will be Ray Land, Professor of Higher Education and Head of the Centre for Academic Practice and Learning Enhancement (CAPLE) at the University of Strathclyde. His research interests include academic development, threshold concepts and troublesome knowledge, research-teaching linkages, and theoretical aspects of digital learning. This year's seminar is entitled 'Overcoming barriers to student understanding: threshold concepts and troublesome knowledge'.
Paper Lunch
Thursday 25th February, 12.15 - 1.15, Wessex House 3.36 (you are required to book a place at this event). A chance to reflect on your practice through discussion based around the following journal article:

e-Learning taster session 2
Thursday 25th February, 2.15 - 4.00, BUCS IT Training Room, 2 South (you are required to book a place at this event). This session will introduce a range of tools available at the university to enable you to support and enhance the learner experience using classroom feedback technologies. In particular, the use of Audience Response Systems and text messaging. The session will focus on introducing these technologies, gaining experience of using the technologies and thinking about how you might use them in your teaching.
Film premier and discussion
Friday 26th February, 12.15 - 12.45, 4 East 3.19 - A ten minute vox pop film which will be recorded and edited on campus around the theme of the week 'enhancing the learner experience'.
Dragon's Den presentations followed by award announcements
Friday 26th February, 12.45 - 2.45, 4 East 3.19 - Last year we gave away £2,500 in funding. The aim of this funding was to advance student learning-enhancement practices in the University of Bath, with staff and student/s working together on the project.
