Enhancing feedback in the classroom using ARS (OL4)
Dates: Monday 16th November to Friday 4th December 2009
Course co-ordinator: Nitin Parmar, Learning Technologist
About this course
Over the last couple of academic years, the University of Bath has been piloting an Audience Response System (ARS) by TurningPoint. TurningPoint is an easy-to-use and interactive ARS which can be used in a face-to-face learning and teaching environment. Already a number of session reports and case studies are available, which detail the successful use of the hardware. An ARS consists of a set of handheld gadgets ["clickers"] which allow students to participate in lectures, seminars and tutorials by submitting responses to questions and viewing the responses as a graph
This course is designed to run for three weeks, will be limited to 8 participants. The course will be delivered online via Moodle. These activities will be a small number of informal sessions in the Claverton Rooms to share experiences, discuss progress and identify any support needs. You will be expected to contribute around 5 hours per week.
The broad aims are to collaboratively answer the following questions:
- What is an Audience Response System and how is it currently being used at the University of Bath?
- What are the some of the benefits of using an ARS? How can it be used to increase levels of students' engagement and motivation?
- How can I use the ARS to develop my own practice in the classroom? How can it be used in conjunction with other classroom technologies?
