About this workshop
There is considerable discussion that some students who come into Higher Education Institutes (HEI) are not prepared to undertake learning in their university courses in the way that many lecturers would like them to, and that students are more focussed on ‘passing their exams’ like in their pre-university years of education. In this short interactive workshop, participants will examine what mechanisms we need to, and can, put in place so that we may fulfil our role as a HEI and assist students to acquire the learning and the skills needed in a HE setting.
At the end of the workshop, participants would have;
- examined and identified the role that HE should play in contributing to the learning development of our students
- analysed bottlenecks that prevent such development
- identified ways in which we could redesign teaching so as to contribute in greater degree to meet the learning needs in a HE context
- evaluated which of these we could use in our own teaching contexts
