Dr Felia Allum teaches in Naples

Tue May 27 15:18:00 BST 2014

Dr Felia AllumFollowing an Erasmus exchange between the University of Bath and the University of Naples, Dr Felia Allum from the Department of Politics, Languages and International Studies (PoLIS) has recently undertaken the 'return leg' of the teaching mobility scheme and spent three weeks giving lectures and seminars in Naples.

Further to Dr Annarita Criscitiello's visit to Bath last October, as part of the scheme, Dr Allum has been working with Professor Enrica Amaturo, Head of the Department of Social Science, during her time in Naples. Dr Allum said:

'I gave 2 two-hour lectures and 3 two-hour seminars in the unit 'Sistema Politico Italiano' (level 3) for the Sociology degree. PhD students also joined in our discussions in the seminars making them even more lively, searching and interesting. The lectures went extremely well with all students engaging and asking questions. In order to make the seminars more interactive and stimulating, I invited some local practitioners to join our debate. The teaching and the overall experience was hugely refreshing and I would recommend the Teaching Mobility Scheme to colleagues.'

In addition to her teaching, Dr Allum was invited to discuss her current research with the research group based in the department that works on organised crime (including Dr Luciano Brancaccio and Dr Carolina Castellano). This enabled her to activate some new links with Neapolitan colleagues. Dr Allum emphasised how her experience in Naples helped to give a different perspective on her teaching and research and was very appreciative of the warm welcome she received from her exchange colleague, Dr Criscitiello.

The Erasmus Teaching Staff Mobility Scheme enables staff to spend a teaching period at a higher education institution in another participating country. These exchange arrangements can vary between one day to six weeks.
