Quality Assurance Agency Institutional Review: Update
Most of you will be aware that the University is currently undergoing an Institutional Review of
its learning and teaching provision. This is carried out by a panel of reviewers representing the
Quality Assurance Agency (QAA). Our preparations have been led and co-ordinated by the Student
Learning Experience & Quality Team (SLEQ), within the Learning & Teaching Enhancement
Office (LTEO), with support from colleagues in the faculties and School as well as professional
staff based in central services.
The QAA Review team attended the University on Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 March 2013 and met
with the Vice-Chancellor, student representatives and staff with responsibility for key quality
assurance areas.
Following the first team visit, as expected, the Review Team requested the submission of
some additional evidence to provide them with a more detailed insight into how the University
develops, implements and evaluates a range of policies and activities. This evidence has been
submitted to help inform the full Review visit w/c 29 April 2013.
We have now been in contact with those colleagues who will take part in the full Review visit
at the end of the month. This visit will include two meetings with students and four meetings with
staff, covering a wide range of learning and teaching aspects. We are grateful to all colleagues
who have supported the Review process so far, by providing information, participating in earlier
meetings and also, all those who have kept their diaries free for the last week in April.
If we have not contacted you already, please assume you can now release the dates you are
holding.
Professor Bernie Morley, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Teaching) said:
'The Institutional Review process gives us an opportunity to seek recognition for the quality
of our learning and teaching provision. At the same time it allows us to look at our provision from
a different perspective. This is worthwhile, but can be demanding on the staff involved. I am very
grateful to those of you who have provided documentation and information, who have taken part in
meetings with the reviewers or who are about to do so, as well as the staff in LTEO who are
co-ordinating the review process. All your contributions are very much appreciated.'
