Winner of this year's Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES)
Fengwei Zhu, a postgraduate student studying for a Masters in International Relations, is this year's lucky winner following a prize draw on the completion of the Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES).
Co-ordinated by the Higher Education Academy (HEA), PTES has been running since 2009 and
is available to all higher education institutions across the UK with postgraduate taught (PGT)
student provision. Currently around 90 HEIs participate in the survey.
Nearly 600 PGT students responded this year and the results will be made available to staff
and students later in the summer to support annual monitoring of programmes and to further enhance
our PGT provision. We place great importance on feedback from this survey to help us to continue
enhancing the quality of the PGT experience. This survey enables us to collect feedback from
current PGT students in a systematic and user-friendly way. It is based on the same methodology as
the highly successful Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) and was developed using
feedback from institutions who had taken part in PRES.
Delighted with the £100 cash prize, Fengwei Zhu said:
'Students can effectively evaluate the efficiency of teaching after their experience which is, in turn, beneficial to future students.'
The main aim of the survey is to measure the overall experience of studying at the postgraduate taught level. Areas for questioning have been designed to explore:
- quality of teaching and learning, assessment and feedback
- dissertation or major project
- organisation and management
- learning resources
- skills and personal development
- career and professional development
- and overall satisfaction.
In addition, this year we asked some additional questions on each of the following topics:
- academic transition
- assessment and feedback
- student voice
- student engagement
- personal tutorial system
- Students' Union
