What is the Bath Course in Enhancing Academic Practice?

The Bath Course in Enhancing Academic Practice is a work-based learning course recognising you have distinct individual departmental and disciplinary requirements. The course is designed for our own staff with academic practice responsibilities at the University of Bath.

The course aims to support and develop skills that enable you to become coping, confident, and reflective practitioners who seek to continue to improve your practice and further develop as professionals in Higher Education. It will also help you to fulfil the University’s strategic priorities in its commitment to high quality teaching, learning and research.

The Bath Course comprises 4 sections which run at different times of the year and involves a range of assessments drawn from work based learning experiences.

The sections are as follows:

Section A Teaching and Supporting Learning
Section B Becoming an Academic at Bath
Section C Curriculum Design and Development
Section D

Research Management
(optional for teaching fellows)


Who is it for?

The course is open to both new and existing staff in a variety of teaching, learning and research roles who wish to develop their understanding of, and expertise in, aspects of their academic practice in Higher Education.

Successful completion of the course is the normal probationary/contractual requirement. Priority will be given to participants for whom all or part of the course is mandatory under the University requirements.

Entry Requirements
To be eligible to join the course you must be teaching and supporting learning, including elements of assessment, on University of Bath Higher Education courses with 30 hours of teaching per year.

You should be engaged in teaching and research activities while you are enrolled on the course.

If you have limited responsibilities in teaching and learning, or if you have less than 30 hours teaching per year please contact Rachael Carkett, the Course Director, to discuss how best to support your development needs.
