Supporting your researchers: identifying development activities
Following a Training Needs Analysis, your may be looking for ideas for development activities for the researchers you manage and supervise. Attending courses is not the only recognised way for researchers to develop generic skills. The information here can help you to identify a blend of activities and training.

- Discipline specific training e.g. departmental seminars, journal clubs, away days, training on specific methods or analysis
- Teaching or mentoring/supervision of project students
- Preparation for, attendance at, or feedback from, conferences/seminars
- Networking and collaborating with other disciplines or institutions
- Public engagement activities
- Enterprise: consultancy or commercialisation of research
- Job shadowing/ visiting potential employers
- Attending careers fairs or having one to one careers guidance
- Language courses - if they will help you be more effective in your research or in enhancing your career prospects
- Engagement with university committees
- Any activity that demonstrably develops any of the skills listed in the Researcher Development Framework
