Activity-based learning using eLectures

Summary:
This case study involved the creation of an eLecture through which an examination of the different models of perspective taking in communication was conducted.
Although watching video can be described as a passive experience, this eLecture was able to move beyond the passive by introducing interactive elements in the form of online experiments. Here, the video is used simply to set the context and to introduce concepts. It pauses automatically at predefined points in order to allow students (who are working in pairs and in different locations) to try out an experiment out for themselves. The resources needed for the experiments appear to the students as they need them, as does a synchronous chat facility that opens automatically whenever communication is required.
