Reference Collection Materials

For Reference Only

Throughout the Library, you will find books which are marked with a green spine label as 'For Reference Only' These books, usually data books or single copies of heavily used books, may be used in the Library but can not be borrowed.


Reference Collections

The Level 3 Reference Collection is shelved at the back of the floor, in the Quiet Study Area, and next to the Library catalogues. The collection contains a number of general Engineering and Design, and Literature reference books including dictionaries, product and business directories, and guides to engineering resources, databases, and standards. The Library's collection of Ordnance Survey maps and atlases is also held in this Quiet Study area, opposite to the Reference Collection.

The Level 4 Reference Collection is shelved outside the Information Point. It contains a number of useful chemistry reference books which provide information such as physical properties of chemical compounds, spectral data, and chemical nomenclature, biology, biochemistry, and environmental science dictionaries and encyclopaedias, pharmacy and pharmacology reference books which provide information such as drug names and properties, physics dictionaries, encyclopaedias and data books, maths and computing publications.

There is also a Level 5 reference collection.
