About the Inter-Library Loans (ILL) Service 


What is the ILL service and who is it for?

You can use the service to request an item that is:

Members of the University can use the Inter-Library Loans service to request items such as books, journal articles, theses, conference proceedings, reports, standards and patents. These should be items that they need for their academic work. If you need an item for commercial purposes, including commercial research, please contact us. The service is paid for by your Subject Librarian out of the materials fund for your department.

Staff and research students may also be able to obtain items by visiting other libraries through a number of access schemes.

Using the Inter-Library Loans Service as an Alumni/External User

External and Alumni members of the Library can use the service for a fee of £12.00 per request.  A downloadable request form to submit your ILL query and gain advice about payment is available via this weblink.


How do I request an ILL? 

 

  1. Inter-library loans can be ordered electronically using the online ILL request form. You will be asked to log in with your Bath University Computing Service (BUCS) username and password.
     
  2. Fill in the web form with the details of your request and remember to tick the copyright declaration box. Click the Confirm request button to submit the form.
     
  3. Further requests may be made by clicking the Place another request button. When you have completed all your requests click Finish and logout. The copyright declaration box must be ticked for each individual request.
     
  4. If you need more than one article from a single issue of a journal, then, to comply with copyright, you should request a loan of the whole journal rather than requesting each article individually.
