Digimap Ordnance Survey Data Collection

Before you use Digimap, you need to follow instructions for registering your BUCS username & password with EDINA - you MUST NOT share these with anyone. Digimap enables you to access, draw & download digital map data, and it provides the following two collections:


e-CIGRE is CIGRE's (International Council on Large Electric Systems) on-line technical library and bookstore.  CIGRE publications from 1968 and onwards are listed with many pdf documents available to download.  Content includes technical brochures on the results of Study Committees; papers presented at the biennial Sessions and Symposia; proceedings of discussions of Sessions reports and technical articles from CIGRE’s bimonthly journal Electra.


Full-text access to over 20,000 articles published in over 100 peer-reviewed management & engineering journals from 1994 to date. Bibliographic information available for pre-1994 articles.

Eurographics Digital Library

Full text access to Computer Graphics Forum, conference and symposia proceedings, and dissertations.  No need to login: full access available through institutional membership.

Health & Safety Executive (HSE)

Guidance, and access to publications on health and safety issues and current regulations.

IEEE Xplore

Almost one third of the world's current literature in electrical engineering, electronics and computer science, as published by the IEEE and IET. 

Knovel Library

Searchable full text access to over 4,000 leading handbooks, databases, encyclopedia and reference books across all engineering disciplines. Knovel also provides tools to analyze and display data found.

Lexis Library

Legal information: UK & EU case law, UK & EU legislation & UK law journals. 

Materials Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)  

Now owned by Merck. Almost 90,000 data sheets from Sigma-Aldrich chemical companies. Free of charge but registration is required. Once connected, use the search box at the top right of the screen to find a compound, selecting the substance from the next list displayed. Click on the highlighted number next to the compound name to see the full product details. Then use the MSDS link towards the top right of the details screen to view the Materials Safety Data Sheet.  

NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS)

NTRS includes citations and documents created or sponsored by NASA, and its predecesoor, NACA, from 1915 to date.  The site also provides access to the NIX Collection of citations, images, photos, movies and videos downloaded from the NASA Image eXchange (the images are generally available for educational and information purposes but please check the copyright statement with each individual image).


Easy access to information on companies & industries - including full text access to The Financial Times (20 years), Global Newswire, ICC Company Annual Reports, Directory of Directors & marketing/trade press information  - access problem? - if so, exit & then re-enter Nexis UK 

Occupational Health & Safety Information Service (OHSIS) 

Full text access documents covering health, safety and environmental issues. OHSIS covers current regulations, standards, guidance & best practice documents from many providers including the HSE, Cabinet Office and Government Departments. OHSIS is updated daily and provides an alerting service. Select 'Occupational Health & Information Service' from the homepage.  


Pubmed is helpful for bioengineering: it indexes approximately 3,900 biomedical journals, covering material published from 1966 onward - PDF Guide and Tutorials & videos 


The world’s largest abstracts and citations database of peer-reviewed journals and patents. It searches across 46 million records from over 19,500 journals across the health, life, physical and social sciences, engineering and humanities. User guide / training videos. SAE Mobilis: new platform for SAE Digital Library 

Covering the latest research in all areas of mobility engineering including ground vehicle, aerospace, off-highway, and manufacturing technology. The service includes full-text of SAE Technical Papers from 1906 to date; over 130 SAE e-books; SAE Magazines; and SAE Standards (J-Reports, AMS and AS). 

Web of Science Core Collection - part of Web of Science

Core Collection indexes journal articles and other documents from thousands of core journals in science (1945 to date), social sciences (1970 to date) and arts and humanities (1975 to date). Also indexes books (2005 to date) and conference proceedings (1990 to date) across a wide range of disciplines. To access other WoS databases including Medline and Derwent Innovation Index click on the arrow next to ‘Web of Science Core Collection’ and select individual databases or ‘All databases.’
