What our students say*

Josh Hawkins - Sports Coaching - City of Bath College

Josh Hawkins - Sports Coaching

I took the opportunity to study at City of Bath College as my grades didn’t allow me to study for a Honours Degree. By doing a Foundation Degree I can still progress onto an Honours. I would recommend the Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching because it has the prefect mixture of college study which allows me to interact with my tutor and university study which encourages independence.

Blake Raymond - Sports Coaching - City of Bath College

I was interested in the course because it combined both practical and Blake Raymond - Sports Coachingtheoretical units. As we were the first intake on this course there was an excellent student-teacher ratio and as a result we received a lot of help and attention from the lecturers.

The fact the course is linked to the University of Bath is great. I wanted to complete my PGCE after my degree and Bath has one of the best courses in the country, so the fact I had already completed my degree there put me in good stead.

I would recommend this course to anyone; the lecturers are extremely knowledgeable and amenable and I gained a lot from studying at Bath. The College is also in the middle of a beautiful city and I appreciated that.

John Delahaye - Creative Digital Media - Wiltshire College

John Delahaye - Digital Media Arts"I’m proud of the marks I’ve achieved to date and how well I led my group during the Lackham College project. I would recommend the Foundation Degree in Creative Digital Media as Wiltshire College is making some sound improvements to the course by tailoring it to your individual interests."

Rory James - Creative Digital Media - Wiltshire College

Rory James - Digital Media ArtsThis degree changed my outlook and gave me direction. Everyone at Wiltshire College is very approachable; there’s very good, industry standard equipment; and there’s always help, and it’s fun. Obviously if you’re the sort of person who thinks “I’m into that creative side, I want to try a bit of film or television or camera design of any sort”, then yes, I would highly recommend this course.

Arinze Madu - Applied Computing - City of Bath College

Arinze Madu - ComputingI like the fact that the Foundation Degree in Computing provides you with real life projects so that you have a good idea of what it’s like it’s like to work and study in ICT.

At the end of each lecture or presentation the lecturer and/or class will give you their feedback. I particularly enjoyed producing a website for a letting agent that was able to use the site commercially and I was paid on completion of the project. I am now studying for a BSc in Computing.

Robert Huggins - Applied Computing - Weston College

Robert Huggins - ComputingI would recommend studying here as the class sizes are smaller compared to University which means you receive extra support and a more personal experience. The Student Voice is regarded highly as well. Some of the complex programming is a challenge however the lecturers have industry experience which is extremely useful and supports your learning.

Robert studied the BTEC National Diploma in IT Practitioners and the FdSc Computing at the College before progressing to the top-up Honours degree. He has now graduated with a first in his Computing Degree and plans to pursue a career as an IT Support Technician and ultimately work his way up to becoming an IT manager.

Nyasha Masamba - Applied Computing - Weston College

Nyasha Masamba - ComputingNyasha started at Weston College in 2005 on the National Diploma IT Practitioners course, on successful completion he progressed to the FdSc Computing and then did the top-up year to achieve a BSc (Hons) Computing where he achieved a First Class Honours.

“I received a first class education at Weston College; my time here has been very memorable and exceptionally fruitful. I will always remember how all my tutors encouraged and challenged me to be the best I could possibly be. The College has helped me realise my potential and achieve highly.” Since graduating Nyasha has gained employment at the Royal Bank of Scotland, he would like to progress to a senior management position and is due to start studying for his Masters this year.

Aaron Rens - Engineering Systems - Swindon College

Aaron Rens - EngineeringThe thing I'm most proud of is the fact that I'm here now. I mean, if you'd asked me 3 or 4 years ago, would I have thought I'd be doing a degree, I'd have said no. But there's one thing about being here, it's taught me that anything is in fact possible, and if you just put your mind to it – you know, here I am! And it's a dream come true for me.

I would recommend this course I'm on to anyone. I'd recommend any HE course for a start, because I think any education is good education. And going for a programme like this, if anyone was in a similar line of work to me and saying I'm thinking about furthering my engineering education, I would definitely recommend this course because it not only fits in with your working life, it just improves your knowledge and allows you to go further.

Lucy Cannon- Sports Health & Fitness - City of Bath College

I decided to take a Foundation Degree in Sports (Health & Lucy Cannon - Sports Health & FitnessFitness) as I could study at a college local to my home and still get a degree from the University of Bath. I mostly use the Sports Training Village and the Library on campus. I would recommend studying a Foundation Degree as it’s a great way to study Higher Education for those students who thought they weren’t smart enough!

Georgia Walker - Sports Health & Fitness - Weymouth College

Georgia Walker - Sports Health & FitnessMy tutor is always on hand either to help with work or to offer support. They give us feedback in the tutorial sessions. I would recommend taking a Foundation Degree as it offers you a chance to develop skills whilst living locally and you can still benefit from Higher Education.

Liz Meyer - Addictions Counselling - Action on Addiction

Liz Meyer - Addictions CounsellingI like the fact that a lot of the Foundation Degree in Addictions Counselling is work based learning so I knew I would be equipped to get a good job at the end. I’m really proud of the fact that I’ve made the leap into HE. Giving up a full time job to return to study has been very liberating. I would recommend this course to anyone who has a passion for working with people with substance misuse issues.

Tomasz Podpora- Addictions Counselling - Action on Addiction

Tomasz Podpora - Addictions CounsellingI decided to take the Foundation Degree in Addictions Counselling having studied an element as part of my BSc (Hons) in Public Services. I find the course very flexible and will also have the opportunity to do the BA (Hons) degree. I would definitely recommend this course as it provides really valuable learning experiences based on real life situations.

Junni Scott - Sports Therapy - Swindon College

I was made redundant so I decided to change careers and follow my dream of Junni Scott - Sports Therapybecoming a personal trainer, which I did but I realised that I needed to compliment my new qualifications with a degree that would set me apart from other personal trainers. When I’m at the University for my studies, I use the library, computers, coffee shop, student union building, banks, shops and car park. I’m really proud of just being on the Sports (Sport Therapy) course and being able to say ’I’m a student at the University of Bath.

*please note that all students highlighted above are in their final year of study on a Foundation Degree.  Many of the courses have now changed status from franchised to licensed or are no longer recruiting.  Please see individual web pages for further information.
