New, interactive learning e-resource launched
A brand new online resource for new Foundation Degree students was launched on Monday 17
September.
Stepping into Higher Education
is designed to help students adapt to higher education and develop effective academic
practices during and after their induction programme.
Topics covered include:
- Studying in higher education
- Organising yourself and managing your time
- Getting started on assignments
- Finding information for assignments
- Reading and note taking
- Presenting written information
- Giving talks and presentations
- Working with others
This initiative, supported by the Teaching Development Fund, was led by Martine Woodward and
Dr Florin Bisset of the Learning
Partnerships Office and Kate Robinson
University Librarian. The material was designed in partnership with instructional designer Susan
Parnell and written by consultant Dr Trevor Day.
Trevor explained, ‘This resource is highly interactive and designed to appeal to a variety of
students from young adults studying Creative Digital Media to mature students undertaking Early
Childhood Studies. It aims to bridge the gap from Further Education to Higher Education study and
arm students with the necessary skills and tools to help them succeed in their studies’
Martine added ‘We deliberately consulted a wide cross section of people from the University
Library, Learning Partnerships, LTEO as well as staff and students from Wiltshire College in the
development, design and testing of this e-resource. We would like to thank all those involved and
welcome any feedback or comments in order to continuously improve upon this resource. We see
no reason why this resource could not be used by other students at the University and would like to
see it rolled out across the campus in due course’
