HR Group
|
A forum for senior HR professionals and academics with a common interest in a strategic focus on HR. The strength of the group lies in ‘story telling’ which goes beyond the textbook article and glossy presentation to give the view from the inside. The group holds two formal meetings a year to look at a case study from the perspective of the senior practitioner and to share best practice. Academics in the Work and Employment Research Centre (WERC) provide access to the latest research findings and welcome the opportunity to ‘test out’ theories on a one to one basis. A formal mentoring scheme has been initiated providing guidance and information to more junior HR professionals. The meeting in March on campus combined our senior HR practitioners, more recent graduates working in the HR profession and current students. Practitioners from national and international, public and private companies showcased their best practice in engaging employees and changing employee attitudes (more) The November meeting at the Natural History Museum in London was for our most senior professionals. The discussion was on employee commitment and the difficulties in recruiting and retaining staff.

The University of Bath Marketing Alumni Group launched in September 2009. Leading marketing practitioners from a wide range of industries met to discuss how to develop this group for the benefit of alumni engaged in the marketing sector and for the University. The main aimss and discuss topical iss of the group are to share best practice, to hear guest speakerues. Meetings are held 2-3 times a year, hosted by one of the members in London. Once established, membership of the group will be extended to our more recently graduated marketing professionals and students wishing to work in the marketing sector. The group has met twice since its launch; our first guest speaker was Nigel Gilbert, who masterminded HSBC’s famous ‘think global, act local’ campaign and Lloyds TSB’s ‘for the journey’ advertising. Alumnus Chris Payne (Brand Doctors) presented his view of global brand strategy. On the third occasion, Sir Keith Mills came to talk to us about driving forward the bid for the London 2012 Olympics – a fascinating look behind the scenes of this major achievement. The next meeting will take place in May and invitations circulated. A full report on these meetings can be found on our Past Events page. |
