Malcolm Lewis

Malcolm Lewis

Malcolm (50) has combined his past business life as a company “trouble-shooter”, corporate financier and project finance (China) with his experiences as a culture expert and former International sportsman (Golf – England Captain, Walker Cup, Low Amateur British Open; University of Bath second Sports Scholar 1977) to deliver Board and Senior Management Team (SMT) business performance facilitation/coaching and development.

Nowadays he facilitates and trains SMT’s around ‘Strategic Leadership and Organisational Learning’ highlighting and challenging the importance of energising the connection between ‘individual and corporate purpose’ with the delivery of ‘business results’ to create wealth. Malcolm’s practical experience in linking the ‘hard’ business skills of corporate finance, corporate recovery and strategy with the ‘soft’ behavioural skills of strategic leadership, culture and personal development he believes is a key factor to developing long term sustainable organisational success.

Over the last 27 years (nearly 19 years running Strategic Value Partners (SVP)) Malcolm has advised or personally invested in over 30 company restructurings (including Management Buy-Outs (MBO), MBI’s etc).

SVP is Malcolm’s firm and is based in Bristol (UK) though operates around the world in UK, Europe, Middle East and USA; he qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KMG Thomson McLintock (KPMG) and was in industry as a finance controller and finance director. He still retains his Chartered Accountancy practising certificate (ICAEW) and management consultancy qualification whilst currently tending to run public and in-house courses rather than front line financial advice.

Malcolm undertakes work with both the private and public sectors incorporating the full range of SME’s through to LE. Some of the larger corporate entities he works with are AXA, Centrica, AEGON, IBM, WS Atkins, Halma, Vodafone, Toyota, Cablecom, Merck, Abu Dhabi National Dredging Corp etc through to public sector health (General and Oncology Hospitals, Mental Health boards, Scottish Shared Services and Purchasing Collaborative) as well as Local Government, National Trust, English Heritage and the Armed Forces.

Malcolm has degrees in Business Administration (BSc - Bath University) and Financial Management (MSc - UWE), is a Chartered Accountant (FCA - ICAEW) and a Certified Management Consultant (CMC - IBC).

On the soft side he has trained as an Evolutionary Coach, 7 Levels of Consciousness Cultural Transformation Tools (CTT) tutor, Strength Deployment Inventory (SDI), an Advanced PSYCH-K™ (Psychological Kinesiology) facilitator, Leadership Development Framework (LDF) tutor and is knowledgeable in Archetypes, Myers-Briggs, Intuitive Reading and Constellations.

Academically he is a visiting lecturer on postgraduate (Masters and PhD) and Executive programmes at Henley Business School (Fellow) (University of Reading - Executive Development), University of Bath (Entrepreneur in Residence 2009-2010) and the University of the West of England (Leadership). Previously Malcolm was a Fellow (2000-2008) at Bristol University (Engineering Mgt and Entrepreneurship) and an External Examiner for Masters programmes at the University of Gloucestershire (1999-2002).

In commercial training terms he works around the world with the Institute of International Research (IIR), Terrapinn Financial Training and the Institute of Directors delivering a range of courses from 3 Day MBA in Financial Management, 5 Day MBA for Finance Professionals, 2 Day Business Strategy Toolkit, 3 Day Strategy Skills for Senior Managers, 2 Day Strategic Leadership and 2 Day MBA in Strategic Cost Management to name a few.

On a consultancy level SVP facilitates (Business Coaches) SMT’s and Boards on their strategic development, thinking and cultural assessment as well as coaching one-to-one CXO’s and fast track talent development.

During 2009-2010 the development of a Centre in Entrepreneurship at Bath University is a priority for Malcolm along with supporting the financial management and strategy of SME’s in this entrepreneurial space; in the past he acted for 12 multi-millionaires and wishes to re-connect to this entrepreneurial dimension of his past business life.
