My decision to study at Bath was based on a number of factors. Initially I looked at the league tables and identified Bath, Lancaster and Warwick as the best places to study Business Administration. Although I received offers from all three universities, I chose Bath because it's a campus-based University and I liked the fact that the School of Management is quite small. I also knew about the School of Management's excellent reputation.

I chose to study Business Administration as I wasn't sure about my future career direction. I decided that gaining a broad business degree at a top University would provide a good grounding and lead to a number of career options.

I've learnt a great deal from studying the BBA. I particularly like the variety and flexibility of the course structure. The programme is designed in a way which enables you to determine your own direction of study. If you don't want to study a particular subject, for example Finance, you can choose a programme which cuts out Finance altogether so you just concentrate on the modules you are interested in.

I first heard about Bath when I went to a sports event and picked up a prospectus. At this stage I was interested in doing business and saw that Bath offered a business course and I quite liked the structure of the course. I liked the fact that in the first year you study quite broad modules: Accounting, Finance, Economics etc. Then in the second, third and fourth years you can work out your specialisation. That was the key factor for me in choosing Bath, along with the reputation of the University - its position in the rankings.

I also liked the idea of doing placements. I’d taken a year out before coming to Bath and I liked learning about working culture, office politics etc. so I was interested in going on two work placements. The opportunity to have two work placements really appealed to me in case one work placement didn’t work out. It gives you the opportunity to go to another place or into a completely different field.

I chose IMML because I was seeking a challenge and wanted to nurture my enthusiasm for both business management and the German language. A 50:50 combination of the latter is rare, adding to the exclusivity of the degree. It encompasses a wide range of disciplines ranging from politics, economics and law to finance and international business relations.

For me, the year spent on placement at Siemens VDO in Frankfurt and in Regensburg was truly superb. The culture and language immersion enabled me to develop myself on academic and individual bases, not to mention linguistically.

We have two options: three year course or four year course. I’m doing the four year course with a sandwich placement which means that I’ll spend one year in a company and I’ll be able to put some experience on my CV, earn some money and gain skills...I think it’s an amazing opportunity...
