Having placements with two different companies under my belt significantly increases my chances and gives me a leg up on competitors when applying for jobs.

Eleanor Gilmore

Placement 1: Analyst Consultant, Edengene

Placement 2: Brand Assistant (Marketing), Unilever

"I was given lots of responsibility but received plenty of guidance and support. I was a valued member of the team and never felt like 'just a student'. I made fantastic contacts and am still in contact with these today. I gained many practical skills such as computing skills plus interpersonal, presentation, time management and project management skills. I applied for graduate jobs at Unilever, Proctor and Gamble and L'Oreal. I received offers from all of them."

Graduate position: I accepted a marketing job with L'Oreal.

Maria Norman

Placement 1: Analyst Consultant, Edengene

Placement 2: Junior Account Executive (Sales), L’Oreal

"During my placement at L’Oreal I assisted account managers on a day-to-day basis as well as being responsible for project-based activities. Responsibilities increased with time as my manager became more confident in my ability, and my role enabled me to liaise with other functions such as Finance and Marketing whilst also having complete ownership for some tasks. L’Oreal invested in my development and I participated in five official training courses whilst on my 6-month placement. However, I definitely feel that the range of courses taught at Bath equipped me with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform well. It is testament to Bath’s high calibre of students that during my time at L’Oreal the only interns that were still at university were from Bath - everyone else had a degree first."

Graduate position: Graduate Trainee Programme, L’Oreal.

Geryn Evans

Placement 1: Placement Trainee, Danone

Placement 2: Analyst, Accenture

For my first placement, at Danone, I was the territory sales manager for Scotland and the North. At 19 I was the only company representative in my territory and was responsible for over 500 clients and 25 area managers. The student sales team consisted of 5 BBA students. Collectively we had increased sales in our area by 100% and distribution by 56% from the previous year. At Accenture, I was given the responsibility of leading the regressional testing strategy for our client, BP. This testing approach has been developed and implemented across the UK and areas of the US.

My placement experiences have given me the confidence and stimulus to decide to pursue an entrepreneurial career path and establish my own company in student - recruiter communications."

Graduate position: Self-employed (own business)
