Who to contact
Help with securing your placement
Whilst obtaining a placement is ultimately your responsibility, we provide lots of support. Our dedicated Placements Team will guide you through the recruitment process helping you to secure a suitable placement.
Our Professional Development Programme (PDP) is incorporated into your timetable enabling you to develop your skills and focus on your career development.
PDP consists of two main elements:
- Weekly timetabled sessions to assist with the recruitment process and skills development delivered by company representatives, Management staff and the Careers Advisory Service.
Sessions include: - Writing CVs and cover letters
- Completing application forms
- Interview skills
- Preparing for assessment centres and aptitude tests
- Team-working and leadership
- Presentation and communication skills
- Mock interviews with companies
- Drop-in advice service
- Sector-based sessions providing an overview of different industries and professions.
Pre-Placement Briefings
Organised in conjunction with the Director of Studies, these sessions look at how to effectively manage your placement experience ensuring you get the most out of it. They also cover practical issues such as managing money and Health and Safety issues.
Support while on your placement
You will be in regular contact with the Placements Team who will provide you with information, advice and support throughout.
- You will be guided by your supervisor at the workplace.
- You will have contact with your personal tutor.
- If you are on placement in the UK, a member of our staff will visit you.
While you will be supported by a dedicated Placement team, we cannot guarantee that a particular placement will be available or that you will be able to earn a particular salary. Applications for placements can be very competitive, and you must satisfy the requirements of each employer's selection process.
After you have finished your placement
When your placement finishes you will take part in post-placement debrief sessions. These are designed to help you integrate back into academic life and in utilising the skills and experience you have gained.
