The University of Bath School of Management facilitated an innovative, leadership development programme involving a dozen, high potential, senior managers from Intel and 3M. The School was approached by Intel, one of its Corporate Partners, to source a suitable organisation with whom they could create a new executive development programme based around peer learning and shared experience.
Having secured 3M’s participation, the programme was co-designed over a period of months and participants selected based on their roles and experience. The idea was to create two teams of six who would each spend time at each other’s organisation tackling a shared, strategic challenge.
The programme commenced with a half-day session hosted by the School of Management at the University’s Innovation Centre. Professor Mike Lewis and Dr Sinead Roden led the two teams in discussing how to tackle their specific strategic challenges and then coached them during the respective programme visits to the organisational HQs.
Rod Ireland, Intel Leadership & Development Coach commented:
“The School of Management helped bring together two organisations who share some similar challenges. The participants learnt a huge amount in a short space of time due to the intensive nature of the programme and the willingness to share experience and knowledge. The learning outcomes had genuine value for both organisations and some of the project proposals have been taken forward as part of an implementation plan. Furthermore, we expect the relationships developed during the programme to have enduring value as many of the participants have agreed to maintain contact to look at future business issues.” |
