Research by our world-class academics provides insights which can help your organisation deal with new business challenges and transform futures. Our experts have extensive consulting experience and have been involved in the design and delivery of executive development programmes across both the business and public sectors. They are called on regularly to provide guidance to both SMEs and multinationals, in areas ranging from organisational change to strategy to project management.

Director of Executive Development

I have worked with many clients in Executive Development and Organisational Change, including Virgin Atlantic, National Grid, BT Openreach, Merrill Lynch, Barclays Capital, United Utilities, and HMRC. I have also held senior roles in diverse organisations such as BAE Systems, WPP Group, Morgan Stanley and Pearson, and my last corporate role was as the HR Director for easyJet. I completed my PhD at Bath, investigating how people make sense of organisational change through storytelling. I have degrees in Aeronautical Engineering, Psychology and an MBA, and have co-authored two management books, with my second, Managing Talented People, now available in five languages. I am a qualified business coach, and a Master Practitioner in NLP. I volunteer as a Trustee of the Refugee Council and am a Visiting Professor at Cass Business School.

Professor in Marketing

My research explores the nexus between consumption and production with a particular emphasis on the management of brands, design of innovations and how consumers find meaning through consumption or anti-consumption acts. My focus is on deriving practical models and tools for managers to build brand value and excite consumers through the use of qualitative research methods.

Professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

I joined the University of Bath in 2012. Previously, I had been on the faculties at Newcastle University, University of Connecticut (USA), and IE Business School (Spain). Prior to entering academia, I was a finance executive in the hospitality industry, overseeing two Marriott businesses in Budapest, Hungary. My work seeks to help embrace and navigate the uncertainty of an innovative journey into the future. I have delivered executive education courses on opportunity generation and development at Siemens and in the Global Senior Management Program (IE Business School and University of Chicago). I have also advised the UN Economic Commission for Europe on policy and training for financing innovative development.

Professor Veronica Hope Hailey

Professor Veronica Hope Hailey

Head of the Strategic and International Management Group

I will be Dean of the School of Management from August 2013. My research focuses on the link between Business Strategy, HR Strategy and Change Management. I am particularly interested in the link between organisational change and individual transition. I teach and consult on an international basis - specialising in working with large, mature organisations in collaborative research partnerships with particular interest in exploring the challenges of corporate renewal and people transformation. My recent research has focused on the Repair of Trust following the financial crisis culminating in a report for the CIPD, Where has all the trust gone? based on research within 14 organisations including the John Lewis Partnership, GKN, Norton Rose, HMRC and a banking group.

Professor of Operations and Supply Management

I have worked nationally and internationally as a teacher and consultant with many organisations including BMW, Rolls-Royce, IBM, John Lewis Partnership, Volvo and Intel. My current research interests include the transformation of professional/knowledge-intensive work, procuring complex performance and functional strategy practice. Before coming to Bath, I was senior lecturer at Warwick Business School and research fellow at the Cambridge Manufacturing Institute. I am currently a Visiting Professor at Danish Technical University and have been a visiting researcher at Harvard Business School and a Visiting Professor at the McDonough School of Business, Georgetown University.

My research is broadly concerned with the design and management of supply chains for resilience, innovation and sustainability. I am engaged in the design and delivery of executive workshops and bespoke research projects for public and private sector organisations, including BP, Zurich, BAE Systems, PZ Cussons, UK Trade and Industry, and the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.

Head of the Organisation Studies group and Director of the Work and Employment Research Centre (WERC)

I specialise in Knowledge Management and the management of Knowledge workers. I am Head of the Organisation Studies group and Director of the Work and Employment Research Centre (WERC) which is focused on Human Resource Management in Professional Services Firms. I am known for my work on the transfer of human capital into intellectual capital, thereby linking the intellectual capital, HRM and performance debates. My current research is focused on the links between employee attitudes (commitment) and behaviours such as knowledge sharing, creative engagement and innovation. I conduct my research in cross-boundary contexts wherein which multiple stakeholders have an impact on the strategic impact of HRM practices. I have published widely in the area of people management in knowledge-intensive firms, intellectual capital structures and systems approaches to knowledge.

I have 20 years of experience in organisational and management development, including working with Accenture, AT&T, Banque Paribas, QinetiQ, London Business School, Management Centre Europe, RWE, Unilever, Volvo Construction Equipment, Wessex Water, WWF UK, and the NHS. One key theme in my executive development work is on how individual managers can be more effective in complex leadership contexts. Increasingly, my consulting also addresses how organisations can enable innovation across boundaries and engage diverse groups in developing responses to sustainability and social challenges.

 
Professor Russ Vince

Professor of Leadership and Change

My research expertise covers the areas of management and organisational learning, leadership and the management of change. My books include Managing Change, (Policy Press, 1996); Group Relations, Management and Organisation (Oxford University Press, 1999); Rethinking Strategic Learning, (Routledge, 2004); Organising Reflection (Ashgate, 2004); and the Handbook of Experiential Learning and Management Education (Oxford University Press, 2007). I have published over one hundred academic and scholarly papers, chapters and reviews. I am a specialist in behaviour in organisations, particularly the emotions and politics that can lie behind, inform and undermine rational decision-making. I have many years’ experience of working with senior management teams in both public and private sector organisations. I was an Associate Consultant with the International Institute for Organisational Change (IOC), Geneva, and have run leadership development activities in international companies such as Hyder plc, Electricité de France/ Gaz de France, Hewlett-Packard, Glaxo and Ericsson. I am Academic Director of the Leading Consultation program based in Paris, France, which specialises in the training of internal and external consultants. I am an internationally recognised expert in both action learning and organisational learning.
