Research Interests

I am interested in the interplay between financial reporting and finance e.g. how hedge accounting affects firm valuation. My main research interests are financial reporting theory and equity valuation methods. My research publications cover financial statement analysis, financial accounting theory, accounting education and the transfer of knowledge between industry and academia.

In 2011 I won an Emerald Excellence Award for outstanding reviewer on the Journal of Applied Accounting Research. I act as an external examiner at other UK universities.

I have worked with local businesses and firms of accountants on applied research projects in the areas of budgeting, pension accounting and firm performance. I have given presentations to local businesses as a recognised expert in company valuation methodologies.

PhD Supervision

I am interested in supervising doctoral students focused on my research interests.
