Subject Group:

Business, Society & Business Economics

Key Research Interests:

Financial Management and Accounting Issues in Insurance; Strategic Risk Management and Reinsurance; Corporate Governance and Corporate Finance.

Research Interests

The focus of my PhD research was on the relationship between earnings management, risk management (reinsurance) and accrual management (reserving) in property-liability insurance. This research was sponsored by the UK’s Government Actuary’s Department.

In 2011, I was awarded Tower Australia Life (TAL) Young Insurance Researcher Scholarship, which enabled me to analyse reinsurance optimisation strategies in life insurance. This research is pursued in partnership with the School of Risk and Actuarial Studies at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia.
I am extending my MSc thesis, as I am also interested in corporate governance issues in the UK; specifically looking at the relationship between CEO decision-making power and firms' financial performance in UK’s PLCs.

In addition, in 2012 I was awarded a three-year Grant, Thornton Research Fellowship and currently I am developing a research profile in the Strategic Risk Management area. The main research focus is into aspects of strategic risk in the insurance industry in the UK and overseas.
