MSc in Advanced Management Practice

The Placement

The only Master’s of its kind in the UK, the MSc in Advanced Management Practice (AMP) combines management education with a six-month professional work placement. You'll spend 20-22 weeks working for a company, developing transferable skills and gaining practical experience.

An overview:

  • Mandatory 22-week Period of Professional Placement forms a key, compulsory feature of the MSc in Advanced Management Practice.
  • The aim is to enable you to integrate theory and practice and to gain professional and personal skills that will be of value both during your studies and in your future career.
  • Develop CV and career opportunities: The excellent employment rate of AMP graduates is due in no small measure to the "hands on" experience and skills they gain from their placements. Many students are offered full-time employment with their placement company, and their graduate employment prospects are increased significantly.
  • 93% of our MSc in Advanced Management Practice students were employed within 3 months of graduating (out of those we hold employment data for)
  • Major employers use the University of Bath for placements and as a recruiting ground.
  • Qualifications & Training – gain qualifications, IT Skills & essential soft skills.

Monitoring and Support

The Placements Office provides considerable assistance and guidance in finding suitable placements. Our dedicated team:

  • Liaise with placement providers and the careers service
  • Arrange preparation sessions for the recruitment process as part of the Professional Career Development module– CV, application & interview skills sessions, mock assessment centre
  • Presentations by companies to provide advice on applications
  • Provide counselling and continuous support
  • Arrange Mock Interviews - this year Accenture, PwC, Procter & Gamble, and Rolls Royce are involved
  • Arrange workshops to enhance skills required in the workplace (as part of Preparation for Professional Placement module) e.g. Presentation skills, Leadership & Team Skills, Business Communications, Negotiation Skills
  • Monitor you during your placement – visits and other contact (supported by personal tutors)
  • Deliver Pre-Placement Briefing before you leave for your placement

Whilst I was on my placement as European Market Analyst at one of the world's largest integrated energy companies, I experienced a steep learning curve. Not only did I apply the knowledge acquired throughout my study at Bath, but I was given great opportunities to advance myself and to gain an in-depth understanding of the various businesses that the company operated in.
