Hard Rain Picture Show

British Accounting Association South West Regional Conference

With artist Mark Edwards

July 14,  6.30-8.30
Bailbrook House Hotel, London Road West, Bath

The Lowcarbonworks research team at the University of Bath is delighted to present the Hard Rain Picture Show following their final project conference.  We are delighted to invite all those who are interested and concerned about the state of the planet to this presentation

Mark Edwards’ startlingly original presentation opens with Bob Dylan’s, “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall”. Photographs from around the world illustrate every line of Dylan’s prophetic song, setting the scene for a moving and unforgettable exploration of the state of our planet at this critical time.

The global issues highlighted in Hard Rain are like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle that define the 21st century. While each problem is understood to some degree by decision-makers, they are typically addressed as separate issues. Hard Rain puts the pieces together and shows that the world has little chance to solve any one of them until we understand how they all connect by cause and effect.

Hard Rain takes audiences on a journey through rainforests, man-made deserts, inside shantytowns and peasant villages and into communities of indigenous people living in the most remote habitats on earth. It is not another travelogue or an exercise in hand-wringing. The presentation takes us face to face with our problems and the solutions hidden inside the issues that define the 21st century. It inspires audiences to participate in the complex debate about how best to address the pressing problems that threaten to engulf us.

Praise for Hard Rain

Hard Rain is one of the most powerful presentations I have ever seen – and it has a huge impact on people.
Jonathon Porritt Founder Director, Forum for the Future

As globalization was the defining trend of the twentieth century, so sustainability must be the defining trend for companies in the twenty-first. Mark Edwards’ combination of powerful images, music and words cannot not fail to move and challenge. Hard Rain is stunning in its visual impact, and alongside the poetic vision conjured up by Bob Dylan’s words, Mark teases out the opportunity for businesses to lead the way on sustainability by capitalizing on the renewable world.
John Manning Head of Environmental Tax and Regulation, PricewaterhouseCoopers

Thank you for Hard Rain. I have found that dissent and protest is a lonely business. In anger, anguish, fear and pride it is the words, the language, the symbols, and the music that can often move you to action.
