Regulation and strategic behaviour of tobacco manufacturers Wednesday 30th January 2013 University of Bath Objectives of the workshop The aim of the workshop is to investigate the impact of tobacco regulation on the risk and performance of tobacco manufacturers, as well as the behaviour of tobacco companies in response to and/or in anticipation of regulation. The workshop will examine various strategies used by tobacco manufacturers to adapt to new regulation, in terms of pricing, innovation, foreign direct investment, corporate social responsibility, etc. Academics from various areas in management, economics and health will present their latest research, most notably Professor Frank Chaloupka from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and Professor Frank A. Sloan from Duke University. A panel of academics and practitioners will also discuss the following question: “Can tobacco manufacturers survive any more regulation?” The workshop is sponsored by the Royal Economic Society (RES), the School of Management, University of Bath and the Centre for Governance & Regulation Provisional programme for the day (subject to changes):
