Bath 1st for Business - Sunday Times University Guide 2013Bath has come 1st for Business in the highly influential Sunday Times University Guide. Bath’s excellent employment record is reflected in its retention of 1st for graduate jobs in the Business ranking and again it has the highest proportion of students gaining top class degrees. It is also shown as having the lowest student drop-out rate.

Following on from the award of ‘University of the Year’ in the 2012 edition, the 2013 edition sees the University of Bath move up from fifth position to third in the overall ranking. This places it directly after Cambridge and Oxford Universities. For a university that is still four years away from celebrating its half century, being on the medal podium with two of the world’s most prestigious and ancient institutions is an astounding achievement.

This result comes just days after the National Student Survey (NSS) results were published showing Bath’s  students are again amongst the most satisfied in the UK.

Professor Dame Glynis Breakwell, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bath, has commented:
“This is a fantastic achievement for Bath. We have enjoyed being University of the Year for the past 12 months but in many ways this surpasses that honour.

“To be ranked third in the UK confirms the research and teaching excellence that takes place here, and clearly demonstrates the high quality, distinctive student experience we offer.

“To do this before we have even reached our 50th anniversary is no mean feat.

“I am immensely proud of the dedication and enthusiasm of our staff and students. We are committed to excellence in all that we do and as a result continue to attract academic high-flyers from across the UK and internationally.”

The guide’s league table is compiled using a number of criteria including student satisfaction, research quality, academic peer review, entrance qualifications held by new students, degree results achieved, dropout rates and graduate employment levels.
