'Masks and Mistletoe' party marks culmination of successful year for PG Events Committee
The Postgraduate Events Committee has had a busy semester, concluding on Tuesday with a ‘Masks & Mistletoe’ Christmas party at the Roman Baths.
Students and staff celebrated the end of term in style with drinks and canapés, a raffle, and a display from the Latin & Ballroom Dance Society. Guests came with masks of all shapes and sizes and prizes were given to the most creatively decorated.
The PG Events Committee is student-led and was formed in September 2012. The Committee organises events throughout the year aimed at engaging postgraduate students in their student community and celebrates the benefits of studying in an international setting.
Earlier in the semester the Committee enjoyed an International Dine & Dance evening with students sharing food and music from around the globe. Other events included the Ultimate Dare Team Challenge which involved groups of students performing daring acts with the winning team receiving a prize.
MSc in Human Resource Management and Consulting student, Nicole Hodges, said: "Working for the PG Events Committee has given me an invaluable experience organising fun events and the fact that they are for my course mates makes it even more enjoyable!'
A number of MSc students involved in the Committee are working towards achieving The Bath Award which recognises achievements made alongside normal studies, including charity work, local volunteering and work experience. To receive The Bath Award, students are required to complete at least 300 hours of extra-curricular activities and meet standards in a set of key skills areas: teamwork, leadership, communication, commercial awareness and problem-solving. The Committee and the events it organises can count towards 100 hours of volunteering.
