Mark Read, Strategy Director of WPP gave a fascinating talk at the latest University of Bath Marketing Alumni Group meeting on Tuesday 17th January.

Speaking at the spectacular Freemasons’ Hall in central London, Mark discussed the latest trends in marketing communications with a packed audience of nearly 50 University of Bath alumni, all working in senior marketing roles.

Acknowledging that there’s never been a “more exciting time for marketers” Mark provided a thought-provoking insight into the ways in which consumers are using communications in the digital age.

Following Mark’s talk Professor Mike Beverland, Professor in Marketing at the School of Management, introduced the Strategic Brand Management programme, one of three exciting new Executive Development programmes being offered by the School.

Mark Read is Strategy director and CEO, WPP Digital. He was appointed a director in March 2005. He has been WPP’s director of strategy since 2002 and is also chief executive of WPP Digital. He is a member of the Supervisory Board of HighCo and a director of CHI & Partners. He worked at WPP between 1989 and 1995 in both parent company and operating company roles. Prior to rejoining WPP in 2002, he was a principal at the consultancy firm of Booz-Allen & Hamilton and founded and developed the company WebRewards in the UK. Mark is the expected heir apparent to Sir Martin Sorrell.

The University of Bath Marketing Alumni Group launched in September 2009.
The main aims of the group are to share best practice, to hear guest speakers and discuss topical issues. Meetings are held 2-3 times a year, hosted by one of the members in London.
