Global Residency

Earlier this month, students and alumni took part in the second Global Residency at the School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University in China.

The School of Management provides annual Global Residencies for MBA and MSc students in collaboration with some of the leading business schools in Russia, China and France. These provide students with the opportunity to heighten their awareness of international management issues, experience the impact of different political, economic, social and technological contexts on business activity, gain an insight into companies operating in another country, and apply knowledge from the classroom to a real situation.

The Global Residency Reception was hosted at the British Ambassador’s official residence in Beijing. Around thirty alumni attended, with fourteen delegates from the Bath MSc and MBA programmes. Eight current Tsinghua students and their partners also joined the event.

The evening kicked off with a welcome address from Fraser Addiscott, Deputy Director for UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) in China. He emphasised the importance of these types of events for the continual enhancement of relations between the university and its alumni networks in China.

Dr Pete Nuttall, Senior Lecturer in Marketing at the School of Management, and Ms Snow Wu, University of Bath Alumni Chapter Leader (Beijing) then gave presentations, followed by an opportunity to network.

The reception was very well received and both students and alumni were highly motivated to increase connections between the two institutions.

Summarising, Dr Nuttall said: ‘The tour offered an insight into a culture completely unfamiliar to most of us and to be immersed in such a fascinating environment proved to be both challenging and incredibly rewarding for everyone who took part’.
