David Cross was named runner-up at the Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) Bath Finals last night.

3MT challenges PhD students to explain their research and its significance to a non-specialist audience in three minutes.

More than 80 people attended the finals at Bath Brew House, which saw seven PhD finalists from across the University compete for a place in the national final. Professor Bernie Morley, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost, chaired the judging panel.

David impressed the judges with a lively presentation on his research into the commitment of independent professionals who exist in-between a variety of organisations, clients and individuals.

David said:

This is a great opportunity for me to bring my research to new audiences and to get their feedback that can help shape my future work. I could talk about my research for hours, but condensing that to just three minutes is a really important skill.

BBC Radio Wiltshire interviewed David this morning along with winner Gemma Rowlandson. Listen to their interview here.
