Accommodation
What makes doing a PhD different at Bath, is its high research profile Farshid Shams PhD Student |
The University offers a comprehensive housing service with over 2050 self-catering student rooms on campus and 960 in the city centre, most with en-suite facilities. Postgraduate Accommodation The majority of postgraduates are housed in our modern complexes which are conveniently located in the city of Bath within a short walk of the main shopping precincts and a direct bus route to the University (bus journey is approximately 10 minutes). One small residence, Osborne House, is on the campus boundary, and offers superior accommodation in peaceful surroundings. It has a variety of standard and en-suite rooms as well as several large self-contained studios that include a small kitchenette. See more information at Osborne House The off-site senior complexes have room types to suit all budgets, all on a self-catering basis. Clevelands, Thornbank Gardens, Pulteney Court and Carpenter House comprise variable-size cluster flats or kitchen groups and each complex has its own individual character. Many rooms have en-suite facilities, others share communal shower/bathroom facilities and all are grouped around a communal kitchen/dining room. The John Wood complex has a limited number of 1 bedroom flats suitable for couples. For more information visit the Accommodation Office. Prices vary depending on the standard of accommodation chosen. Priority to Non-EU Citizens Priority for University residences is given to non- European Union postgraduates who are new to Bath. Demand for rooms is high so students are strongly advised to apply as early as possible. A brochure and application form for accommodation will be sent to students once they have confirmed acceptance of an offer of a place on the programme. Private Sector Accommodation Some postgraduates live in private sector accommodation in the city centre or surrounding villages. The Accommodation Office maintains a regularly updated database of self catering lodgings, flats and houses advertised with them by private landlords. Anyone intending to live in private sector accommodation is strongly advised to come to Bath well in advance of the start of term to make the necessary arrangements, particularly if they are seeking family accommodation. Low cost campus accommodation is usually available during the summer vacation until mid-September and reservations can be made through beds@bath.ac.uk, Tel. + 44(0) 1225 383111 or Fax. +44 (0) 1225 386474. The Students' Union also organises a house-hunting weekend in mid-August to help new postgraduates meet each other and form groups for house sharing. Please contact aware@bath.ac.uk for further details or see the Aware website for more information. Transport One of the advantages of studying in Bath is that students do not need a car unless they choose to live some distance outside the city, because Bath is relatively compact with many places within easy walking or cycling distance. The campus is about 2km from the centre of Bath, but all our off-site residences are within a short walk of the main bus/train terminal and there is a regular bus service between the city and the campus, which takes 10 - 15 minutes and runs until 2.00am during term-time. Campus parking permits are available for most postgraduate students who live in the private sector.
