Our team is responsible for organising and supporting the following events.

Graduation and awards ceremonies

Graduation ceremonies are among the most significant events in the University calendar. With ceremonies in the summer and the winter, we celebrate the achievements of our students and give them and their families a day to remember, as they look forward to what lies ahead.

We ensure the smooth running of award ceremonies and have responsibility for publicity, project management, and logistics.

Open Days

We coordinate the running of the University’s two annual Open Days in June and September. The team liaises with colleagues in both academic and professional services departments to ensure these key marketing opportunities are professionally run and make a strong and lasting first impression with prospective students and their families.

As well as University Open Days we also work with colleagues to deliver a series of smaller visits called Bitesize Bath and helps coordinate and manage academic Departmental Open Days.

Public lectures

The public lecture programme is one of the links between the University and the wider community, providing a means for local people - as well as University staff and students - to hear a wide range of external intellectually stimulating speakers. We are responsible for organising the programme and the receptions for the speakers.

Showcase lectures

Showcase lectures highlight the research of the University. They involve at least two, often cross-disciplinary, speakers and are open to staff, students and the public.

Founders Day

Each spring the University hosts Founders Day, an event to celebrate our past, present and future as a University. The event takes place on the annual presentation of our peppercorn rent to Bath and North East Somerset Council.

The ceremony dates back to the mid-1960s when the then Bath City Council agreed to allow some of its land to be used as a site for the new University campus.

Today the event combines a meeting of the University Court, public lectures and exhibitions and a dinner with guests including local councillors, long-serving staff, current and former Students' Union officers, and members of the Court and Council, and is coordinated by our team.

Royal and VIP visits

We take the lead coordinating role, liaising with the Palace Office, the Lord Lieutenant's Office, the Vice-Chancellor's Office and staff.

Opening of new buildings

The team is responsible for drawing up a list of guests for each occasion, in consultation with the Vice-Chancellor's Office.

Ceremonial events

The installations and inaugurations of a new Chancellor or Vice-Chancellor or other ceremonial occasions.
