Aspects of seismic inversion

New Waveform inversion for subsurface seismic velocities is often studied from the perspective of PDE constrained optimization. A multiscale approach is essential to stabilise the inversion. We consider computational aspects of asymptotic and PDE models for seismic waves, with a view to enabling 3D waveform inversion.
