Biomaterials award for Dr Irene Turner
Dr Irene Turner, Reader in the
Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been awarded the 2012 Biocompatibles Endowed Prize by the
United Kingdom Society for Biomaterials
(UKSB).
The award was presented by the President of the UKSB, Professor Lucy Di Silvio, at the annual conference held at Nottingham University in June this year.
Dr Turner delivered an invited lecture entitled Towards engineered functional biomaterials for bone replacement, describing her work on the development of synthetic bioceramic materials for replacement, repair and reconstruction of bone tissue.
The Biocompatibles Endowed Prize recognises researchers with an industrial link to their research who have made significant contributions to the UK Biomaterials field. Dr Turner was surprised to be nominated and subsequently delighted to receive the award which she accepted in recognition of the contribution of the many postgraduate students and postdoctoral research assistants with whom she has worked throughout her research career.
