Dr Sabina Gheduzzi

PhD

Profile

Dr Gheduzzi is a Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering. Her research is in the area of biomechanics and biomaterials and focuses on orthopaedic applications such as hip and knee joint replacements, fracture healing and fixation of spinal deformities.

Dr Gheduzzi was awarded a degree from the University of Modena, Italy, in 1995 and obtained a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bath in 2001. In the same year she joined the former Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Bristol as a Lecturer. She returned to the University of Bath in 2006.

Research

Dr Gheduzzi’s broad field of research is in the application of engineering principles to current orthopaedic problems. This ranges from the design and evaluation of implants and biomaterials suitable for implantation in the human body to the development of novel diagnostic techniques.

Dr Gheduzzi has a special interest in the application of ultrasound to living tissue, both as a stimulant for functional growth in vitro and in vivo and as a quantitative diagnostic tool.

Dr Gheduzzi’s work is multidisciplinary in nature and relies on the collaboration with colleagues from disciplines such as Orthopaedics, Physics, Biology and Chemical and Electrical Engineering.
