Profile
Dr Carl Sangan is a Prize Fellow in Mechanical Engineering and a member of the thermofluids group.
His research area is gas turbine engineering, with a particular interest in experimental and theoretical modelling of the flow and heat transfer in rotating disc systems.
Carl obtained an MEng(Hons)Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath in 2008, followed by a PhD at the University in 2011.
He was appointed to the Prize Fellowship in Gas Turbine Engineering in 2012.
Research
Carl's current research is in turbine cooling through the efficient use of gas turbine secondary air systems. Areas of interest include:
- Modelling of hot-gas ingestion through turbine rim seals
- Heat transfer and fluid mechanics in rotating systems
- Film cooling of turbine blades
- Pre-swirl cooling air delivery to rotor discs
