Emissions measurement facility

PVR Facilities emissions-analysisOur suite of three dynamic engine test cells is served by a central emissions measurement capability. Fast response instruments complement the industry standard tools.

Engine test cells 1, 2 and 3 are supported by a centralised emission measurement facility. This clean room houses an industry standard Horiba emissions analyser and the gas conditioning units for the fast response analysers.

The facility currently offers a single point exhaust gas measurement. However, there are plans are for a second Horiba emissions analyser to offer simultaneous pre and post catalyst measurement.

Emissions equipment is serviced four times a year by Horiba service technicians on a planned preventive maintenance contract.

We pay close attention to correct time-alignment of raw emissions data to ensure accurate and repeatable mass emissions results over time. Engine test cells 1, 2 and 3 share an industry standard Horiba MEXA-7000 series analyser. This takes a single point raw exhaust gas sample (pre or post catalyst) for CO2, CO, O2, THC and NO/NOx plus EGR (based on CO2) measurements.

A portable Horiba MEXA-1400FR fast response analyser is also available to take single point raw exhaust gas sample (pre or post catalyst) for CO2, CO, THC and NO measurements. This device has a response time of 40msec and is used to monitor transient emissions response during transient events (i.e. tip-in). The sample probe is typically located in the exhaust manifold or downpipe.

A portable AVL439 opacity meter is available to take single point raw exhaust gas sample (pre or post catalyst) for opacity measurements.
