Rendering Hair Directly into Images

David Pickup - 16 Oct 2009

Computer graphics/vision techniques such as geometry and lighting extraction algorithms have created the opportunity to develop new and innovative image editing tools, which make possible effects which are impractical using conventional editing software. One such tool which has previously been created, allows the material of an object displayed in an image to be edited. During this talk I shall discuss some of the techniques used in this previous work, and shall describe current research which uses these techniques to add hair to objects within an image. I shall describe in more detail the contribution I made to this research, which was the implementation of a hair modelling system and rendering algorithm.
