Meningitis can kill in hours if it not treated

Meningitis can be hard to detect, because it is easy to confuse the symptoms with a hangover or 'flu.

In this 6-minute video mini drama, a group of young actors show the less obvious effects of meningitis and septicaemia and tell you what to do. Music by Fort Lauderdale.

The main messages are:

This film is a tribute to Susie Clarke who died of meningitis on November 23, 1998, aged 19.

Signs and symptoms of meningitis and meningococcal septicaemia include:

severe headache
fever
neck stiffness
dislike of bright lights
rash
vomiting
drowsiness or impaired consciousness
abdominal pain
joint or muscle pain
diarrhoea
rapid breathing
cold hands and feet

Symptoms can occur in any order
All symptoms are not always present
Early diagnosis can save lives
