Do I have to pay?
UK and EU students do not have to pay tuition fees upfront.
The Government will provide a tuition fee loan which you do not have to repay until you are employed and earning £21,000 per year.
If you are an international student or do not wish to pay for your fees using a tuition fee loan then you will need to pay your fees to us directly.
Paying your fees
There are several ways to pay. We prefer you to use Direct Debit. Self-funding students can pay tuition fees in two instalments. Please note that we reserve the right to refuse this concession to students with bad payment records.
Direct Debit
If you want to pay your tuition fees by Direct Debit, you can enter the details of your UK bank account safely and securely when you register online.
- payment by Direct Debit is in two instalments without any additional charges
- we cannot accept Direct Debits from bank accounts outside of the UK
- we will announce the collection dates for direct debit closer to the date of registration
- the first and second instalment will be 50% of the tuition fee
- Direct Debit mandate form.
Failed Direct Debits
If you have arranged to pay by Direct Debit and the collection fails, we will charge you the returned cheque charge plus the appropriate instalment charge.

Debit card
To pay by debit card, you can enter the details safely and securely when you register online.
- there is no commission charge for payments by debit card
- we allow payments by debit card in two instalments without additional charges
- the first and second instalment will be 50% of the tuition fee.
Please note: We cannot accept Solo and Visa Electron cards with online or telephone payments. If you want to pay with these cards, you must do so at the Cashier's Office in Wessex House 3.38.
Credit card
To pay by credit card, you can enter the details safely and securely when you register online.
- there is no commission charge for payments by credit card
- we cannot allow credit card payments in two instalments
- you must pay the full amount at registration.
Please note: we do not accept American Express or Diners Cards.
Cheques and drafts
If you want to pay by cheque or sterling travellers' cheques, you can either send them to the Cashiers Office (WH3.38) in advance, or present them in person at one of the registration sessions.
- indicate that you are paying by cheque or travellers' cheque when you register online
- print out and send or bring the online remittance slip when you pay
- payment can be made in either one or two instalments
- if you are paying by two instalments, an instalment charge may apply
- cheques (not Drafts) must be drawn on a UK Bank Account
- please make cheques payable to "University of Bath" and write your student or UCAS number on the back of the cheque.
Returned cheques
If you pay by cheque, you will be charged £20 for cheques that are returned from the bank unpaid.
Bank transfer
If you want to pay by bank transfer, you will need to arrange this in plenty of time for the funds to reach our account by the start of the academic year. You should allow at least ten working days.
- indicate that you are paying by bank transfer when you register online
- you can pay in either one or two instalments
- if you are paying in two instalments, an instalment charge may apply (see 'Instalment Charges' below)
- please remember to use your student or application number as the reference for your bank transfer.
Please note: the bank may make a charge of between £6 and £12, so please adjust the amount you transfer accordingly.

Cash
If you want to pay by cash, you can either pay at the Cashiers Office (WH3.38) in advance or pay in person at one of the registration sessions.

- you can pay in either one or two instalments
- if you are paying in two instalments, an instalment charge may apply (see 'Instalment Charges' below)
- you can only pay in pounds (GBP)
- do not post cash in the mail or carry large sums of cash around with you.
Instalments
If you are not registered as an undergraduate "Home/EU" student and you want to pay your tuition fees in two instalments, you will need to pay an instalment charge as follows. Please note it is not possible to pay in two instalments by credit card.

If you have a fee status of "Home/EU", you may pay your tuition fees in two instalments, by any method (except credit card), without paying the instalment charge.
Please note that we reserve the right to refuse the concession of paying in instalments if you have a history of late payments.
